On Friday, the 28th of August, 2015 the Section of Spine Surgery of the University of the Philippines Manila College of Medicine – Philippine General Hospital, will be conducting its latest educational offering: an ADVANCED COURSE IN GERIATRIC SPINE DEFORMITIES AND SOLUTIONS: A CADAVERIC WORKSHOP ON CORRECTIVE SPINE OSTEOTOMIES AND FENESTRATION LAMINOTOMIES, at the Buenafe Hall and the Dualan Anatomy Laboratory of the UP College of Medicine in Pedro Gil, Manila. This will be a skills workshop with a faculty composed of the consultant staff of the Spine Section ably led by its Section Chief Dr. Jose Manuel F. Ignacio and the Course Director Dr. Rafael C. Bundoc along with two luminaries from the Tohoku University School of Medicine Department of Orthopaedics, Sendai City, Japan: Prof. Toshimi Aizawa and their Chief of Spine Surgery Prof. Hiroshi Ozawa. This institution is a referral center in the Tohoku region for difficult spinal reconstruction surgeries and has produced numerous papers on spine surgery, particularly a recently published landmark article on their work in the fenestration procedure for spinal stenosis.
Registration starts at 7:30AM and the didactics will be from 8:00AM until 12:00PM. The skills workshop will be held after the lunch break with the participants divided into two groups – one each for the osteotomy workshop and the fenestration/decompression workshop – which will then be switched so everyone can have the opportunity to be tutored by our two guests from Japan who will administer each of the workshops.
To ensure better interaction between faculty and thus optimize the learning, registration will be limited to only 60 participants, so please do contact the UPCM-PGH Department of Orthopedics to reserve a slot either through the PGH trunkline: (02)554-8400 (look for Beth), or through email at orthopedics_pgh@yahoo.com.
